Elevation Expedition
Climb toward an elevation target through the challenge period.
What is this challenge about?
Elevation Expedition measures elevation gain in meters. It is useful for hilly running, hiking, trail riding, or cycling groups where climbing is more meaningful than distance. A typical starting target is 3,000 meters per participant over 30 days, but the right target depends on the terrain and group.
How do participants win or achieve the goal?
Participants add the elevation gain from eligible activities until they reach the target. In Goal mode, completed participants rank first, followed by incomplete participants ordered by elevation gained. Amount mode is available when you prefer the highest total without a fixed finish line.
How participants track progress
- Leaderboard: compare meters climbed, target progress, completion status, and rank.
- Statistics: follow the daily climbing trend and activity-type breakdown.
- Stream: see the elevation contribution of each activity.
- My Activities: inspect the source elevation recorded for personal activities.
Key configuration options
Objective
- Set Challenge type to Metric goal.
- Choose Elevation, measured in meters.
- Enter a target suitable for the dates.
Activities
- Start with Running, Cycling, and Walking and hiking.
- Remove sports that do not provide useful elevation data.
- Decide whether manual elevation entries are acceptable.
Optional configuration
Use Amount mode for an open-ended climbing leaderboard. You can require GPS sharing, add photo proof, add participant-facing rules, ask join questions, or provide a calendar. Explain whether manually entered elevation is accepted and how it will be reviewed.
How to set it up
- Select Elevation Expedition and set the dates and participant limit.
- In Challenge Settings, open Basics and choose Metric goal.
- Set the metric to Elevation and enter the meter target.
- Review Activity types and keep only categories that should contribute elevation.
- Save, perform a test import or entry, and confirm the elevation progress in Statistics.
Common mistakes
- Using a target that is too high for the challenge duration.
- Including activity categories that have no reliable elevation value.
- Assuming elevation race mode behaves like a fixed cumulative goal.
